GPT-6 and Claude 5.5 are here: what they mean for Indian businesses

In the last three weeks, the two biggest AI companies launched new models. OpenAI started rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT on 7 October 2026, with answers that can include charts, calculators and buttons. Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 the same day, at a price about 75% lower than the model before it. For an Indian business, the headline is simple: AI is getting smarter, more visual and much cheaper. Your customers' expectations will move with it.

Here is what launched, what it costs, and what you can actually do with it.

What launched, in order

AI launches, September–October 2026
  1. 1Claude Opus 5.5Anthropic's top model; the company says it works at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most tasks at 40% lower cost than Opus 522 Sep
  2. 2Claude Sonnet 5.5A faster, cheaper middle model: 30% faster and up to 30% cheaper than Sonnet 5 for most work, per Anthropic28 Sep
  3. 3GPT-6 in ChatGPT, paid plansGPT-6 Sol with "Intelligent UI" for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users7 Oct
  4. 4Claude Haiku 5.5Anthropic's smallest, fastest model for high-volume work, about 75% cheaper than Haiku 4.57 Oct
  5. 5GPT-6 for Free and Go usersGPT-6 Luna, reported to start rolling out a day after paid plans8 Oct

GPT-6 and "Intelligent UI": answers you can click

The biggest visible change in ChatGPT is not just a smarter model; it's how answers look. With Intelligent UI, as reported, ChatGPT can mix text with interactive charts, buttons, forms, maps and calculators when that suits the question. It can still answer in plain text when that is clearer.

Why should a shop owner or a startup founder care? Because your customers will get used to instant, interactive answers. If ChatGPT can show someone an EMI calculator in seconds, a business website that only says "call us for details" will feel slow.

How Intelligent UI answers a question: You ask a question ("Compare these 3 phone plans for me"); GPT-6 picks the best format (plain text, table, chart, map or calculator); You get an answer you can use (tap buttons, change numbers, compare options)
How Intelligent UI answers a question

What this means in practice:

  • Your website should answer, not just inform. Price estimators, booking slots, stock checks and order tracking turn visitors into customers. Our own project quote tool is a small example: answer four questions and see a price range at once.
  • People will ask AI about you. More customers now ask ChatGPT or Google's AI "who builds apps in Guntur?" or "best billing app for kirana". Clear, honest pages on your own website help AI tools describe you correctly.

Claude Haiku 5.5: AI is now very cheap to run

Anthropic's new small model is built for high-volume, low-cost work: summaries, sorting messages, database questions and customer support. Here is the published price for the text the model reads (input), per million tokens. A token is roughly three-quarters of an English word.

Price per million input tokens (US$, prompts up to 100k tokens)

What does that mean in rupees? Take a customer support reply that reads about 1,000 tokens (the customer's message plus your shop's information) and writes about 300 tokens. At Haiku 5.5's list prices, that is about US$0.00025 per reply, or roughly US$0.25 for 1,000 replies: a few rupees per thousand. Real costs depend on message length and the exchange rate, but the point stands: AI replies now cost far less than the time a person spends typing them.

Tip: cheap AI is only useful if it gives correct answers. Give it your real price list, timings and policies, and have a person check anything involving money, medicine or legal matters.

5 practical ways an Indian business can use this now

One small AI model, many jobs in your business: Small AI model (like Haiku 5.5) (cheap, fast, reads your own business information); WhatsApp and website replies (price, timing, order status); Sorting new leads (hot, cold, wants a quote); Daily summary for the owner (sales, dues, low stock); Smart catalogue search ("red cotton saree under 2000"); Plain-language reports ("who collected the most this month?")
One small AI model, many jobs in your business

You don't need a big IT team. These are realistic projects for a small business, usually built into the software you already use or into a new app or website:

  1. WhatsApp or website replies, 24×7. AI answers common questions (price, timing, availability, order status) from your own information, and hands anything unusual to a person.
  2. Sorting enquiries in your CRM. Every new lead is tagged automatically: hot, cold, wrong number, wants a quote, wants support. Your team calls the right people first. See custom CRM software.
  3. Summaries of the day. Each evening, the owner gets a short note: today's sales, top items, pending payments, low stock.
  4. Smart search in your catalogue. Customers type "red cotton saree under 2000" or "sugar-free biscuits", and your app understands them.
  5. Reports in plain language. Ask "which salesman collected the most this month?" and get an answer, without opening Excel.

What to be careful about

  • Customer data: don't paste customers' phone numbers, addresses or payment details into random free AI websites. Use proper business accounts and keep customer data protected under India's data protection rules.
  • Wrong answers: AI can sound confident and still be wrong. Keep a person in charge of prices, refunds and promises.
  • Lock-in: if someone builds an AI feature for you, make sure you own the code and the accounts, and that the model can be swapped if a cheaper or better one launches next month. In 2026, that happens often.

For people who want to build apps themselves

The same launches make building apps with AI cheaper and easier. AI can now plan screens, write code and explain errors in simple words. If you have an app idea and want to build it yourself, our live LINA Learn workshop teaches the whole process in Telugu. If you'd rather have it built for you, get a project quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is GPT-6 in ChatGPT?

GPT-6 is OpenAI's new model family in ChatGPT, rolling out from 7 October 2026. As reported, paid plans use GPT-6 Sol and Free and Go plans use GPT-6 Luna, and answers can include interactive charts, calculators and buttons ("Intelligent UI").

What is Claude Haiku 5.5?

Claude Haiku 5.5 is Anthropic's smallest and fastest model, released on 7 October 2026. It is designed for high-volume tasks like summaries, sorting messages and customer support, and costs about 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5.

Can a small business in India afford AI?

Yes. With small models like Haiku 5.5, a typical customer support reply costs a tiny fraction of a rupee in AI fees. The bigger cost is setting it up properly with your own data, and checking its answers.

Do I need a new app to use AI in my business?

Not always. AI can be added to your existing website, WhatsApp, CRM or billing software. A new app makes sense when your process needs one, for example bookings, orders or field staff.
